WHAT IS YOUTUBE SEO?
YouTube SEO simply means optimizing your video in such a way that you get views directly from YouTube search
You can get views from external sources, but YouTube search helps you reach people actively looking for content like yours.
The key elements of YouTube SEO are, keyword research, Optimized titles, Description, Tags, Thumbnails, External views in first hour, Retention rate, engagement and so on.
I will explain in detailed exactly how to apply all these key elements to your videos so you can take your videos from the bottom to the #1 result on YouTube.
HOW TO DO KEYWORD RESEARCH
Keyword research simply means knowing exactly what your audience are searching for.
Basically, we have 2 methods of doing keyword research and the first method I’ll explain here is something most people do not talk about.
METHOD 1 – DOING KEYWORD RESEARCH ON YOUTUBE
To get started with this method, you simply need to head over to the YouTube app and select the incognito browser mode
Before doing keyword research you should have your target keyword in mind.
If you’re making a video about how to make money online then you should search for that on the incognito tab.
As you can see YouTube has recommended a bunch of other keywords to you.
Now, you can use this to optimize your title and description BUT you have no idea if people are actually searching monthly for this which makes this method not always effective to increase search rankings and that brings us to
METHOD 2 – USING THE ULTIMATE YOUTUBE SEO KEYWORD RESEARCH TOOL

It’s basically the same process, but now you have a detailed analysis of what viewers are searching for.
Vidiq shows you the number of people searching for that particular keywords monthly and also the competition of that keyword.

At this stage, pick a keyword with high search volume and low competition—especially if your channel is small.
For me, I like to copy all keywords and optimize. Open Google Docs, create a document like the one in the screenshot, and paste the keywords you got from VidIQ.
HOW TO CRAFT A GOOD SEO TITLE AFTER KEYWORD RESEARCH
After copying all keywords. I remove duplicate words and use the remaining ones to craft a title.
I removed a bunch of keywords—mainly the ones that didn’t fit my content—and came up with this 👇
I crafted my title from the scattered keywords you can see but I made sure to exclude the unnecessary keywords.

Next up, is the most difficult part of SEO which is
HOW TO WRITE A DETAILED YOUTUBE SEO OPTIMIZED DESCRIPTION
Most people don’t realize this, but your description is vital for your video’s ranking in search results.
This is where you tell the YouTube algorithm that this is what your video is about. If you don’t have a good description, you can’t rank your videos on YouTube.
So all you need to do is write content around the keywords you copied from VidIQ.
Google hates spam, so pick 10 keywords from your description and write content around them. Also, make sure your SEO-optimized title appears at least twice.
Looking up at the screenshot above, you will notice that I have actually created an SEO optimized description with the keywords highlighted.

HOW TO APPLY TAGS TO IMPROVE YOUTUBE SEO SCORE
Although most YouTubers out there claim that tags are not important I still like to add them immediately after uploading a video to YouTube.
Immediately you upload a video, add some of the recommended keywords from VidIQ app as tags and you should be able to see your search rankings for these keywords.
Now even after doing all this, your video may not appear on the #1 page on YouTube so that brings us to step 4
TAKE YOUR VIDEO TO #1 – GET VIEWS FROM EXTERNAL SOURCES WITHIN THE FIRST HOUR
After uploading to YouTube, it’s important to share across different social media.
If YouTube sees you’re bringing traffic from outside their platform, they may push your video higher in search results.
But then again, you could rank #1 on YouTube and still get 0 views if your thumbnail is bad.
INCREASE YOUR CTR – THUMBNAIL
If you don’t have a good thumbnail then you probably won’t get clicks on your video and if you’re not getting clicks, it reduces your click through rate (CTR) and YouTube pushes your video down.
